How Much Time Do Children Spend on the Computer?

Computers, tablets, and smartphones have become a part of children's lives. They study, play, communicate, and watch videos. But how much screen time is considered normal?

Studies show that the average child spends 3 to 7 hours a day in front of a screen, and teenagers even more. This number has been increasing every year. The main reasons are:

Education: online lessons, doing homework.
Games: computer and mobile games are becoming more and more popular.
Social networks: children and teenagers spend several hours a day on messaging apps and video platforms.
Entertainment: watching movies and videos on social media.

Harm or Benefit?

Time spent in front of a computer screen is not harmful in itself, but excessive use can lead to:

deterioration of vision
posture problems
decreased physical activity
addictive behavior

However, technology is not just harmful. Computers help with studies, develop thinking, and provide opportunities to learn new professions and skills.

How to Find Balance?

Experts recommend:

Preschoolers: no more than 1 hour per day.
Younger schoolchildren: up to 2 hours, with breaks.
Teenagers: no more than 3-4 hours, including study time.

It is important not just to limit screen time, but to offer alternatives: walks, sports, board games, books. If gadgets are used for development – that's one thing, but if they are only used for endless video watching – that's quite another.

Computers are a part of modern life. The key is to teach children how to use them productively and maintain a balance between the virtual and real world.
